Hike
beside the wild sparkling waters of the Clearwater River. Explore peculiar
volcanic formations between the soaring walls of Hemp Canyonlands. Scramble
behind Moul Falls or soak up its cool spray during a dip into its plungepool.
Thrill to a raft ride down the
Clearwater River through Sabre Tooth Rapids and Granite Canyon. Throw a fishing
line into one of the river's deep clear pools.
These are just a few of the activities you can enjoy during a stay at Clearwater River Chalet. Yet the highlight for many guests may be simply relaxing on the deck, watching the river flow by, and savouring the solitude where no other habitation is in sight.
Clearwater River Chalet is located adjacent to Wells Gray Park, a gigantic wilderness area near Clearwater, two hours north of Kamloops in central British Columbia. From the Chalet deck, you can enjoy a splendid view up the river with no other human habitation in sight. The Chalet is situated on 120 hectares (300 acres) of private land beside the Clearwater River which gives you plenty of space to roam undisturbed. If you enjoy hiking, you will find a network of trails radiating from the Chalet, ranging from the 20-minute walk to Moul Falls to the all-day Hemp Canyonlands loop. If you prefer fishing, the deep pools of the Clearwater River produce some excellent catches.
Clearwater River Chalet was designed as a wilderness retreat for people seeking a vacation in an isolated area away from modern distractions. Here you will find no television, no telephone, no cell phone service, no newspaper and poor radio reception. And you can't even drive to the Chalet. Access is by a 30-minute walk from the end of a private 2 km road off the Wells Gray Park road. There are no staff on site and the Chalet is never rented on a share basis, so you can expect to enjoy an exclusive and private stay. The Chalet can accommodate parties of up to 8 persons.
