FISHING & WILDLIFE

Clearwater RiverThe Gateway Guesthouse property has considerable frontage on the Clearwater River, so guests can enjoy lots of private shoreline for fishing. The river's deep calm pools are home to Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden. The Clearwater is a catch and release river with a bait ban and barbless hooks. Chinook Salmon can be caught in August with a special licence. A one-hour drive away is immense Clearwater Lake which has excellent catches of Rainbow Trout. A British Columbia fishing licence must be purchased in advance and it is advisable to check local regulations.

The Guesthouse property is a wildlife sanctuary, so hunting, snowmobiles and ATV's are not permitted. Consequently, wildlife is plentiful and guests frequently observe eagles, moose, deer and black bears and occasionally mink, coyotes, wolves and cougars. Up to 10 moose winter on the property and sightings while you ski are common.
