WELLS GRAY PARK

View of Raft Mtn. from Trophy MeadowsAbout 1,300,000 acres of splendid wilderness parkland start at the door of Clearwater River Chalet. Wells Gray is British Columbia's fourth largest park. It has been nicknamed "Canada's Waterfalls Park" for its many magnificent waterfalls including Helmcken Falls, Canada's fourth highest.

Wells Gray Park is also famous for its extraordinary volcanic formations including cinder cones, vast lava flows and basalt cliffs. Trophy Mountain and Battle Mountain dominate the south end of the Park and their splendid alpine meadows, abundant with colourful flowers, are accessible by hiking trails.

"Exploring Wells Gray Park", 5th edition (2004), is a complete guide to the Park's roads, trails, lakes and backcountry. Written by Roland Neave, owner of both Clearwater River Chalet and Wells Gray Gateway Guesthouse, it is available in many bookstores in British Columbia or at the Wells Gray Park visitor centre in Clearwater. It can also be ordered from the Chalet reservations office. The book costs $19.95 CDN plus 5% GST and postage.
